Thank you for visiting my website. I am Johnston Richard and
I’m pleased to make your acquaintance. I’m a proponent of faith and I firmly
believe that nothing ever happens by chance and that everything has a reason,
and a season under the sun. So, thank you once again for checkin’ in. Having
said that let me share with you as to how it all began.
When I was barely 3 years old, there was a spiritual
convention held in our hometown, a serene and a beautiful place where gold was
mined in those days. I remember my dad saying that after the convention I
pointed at a man, who had obviously played the guitar at the service, carrying
his guitar in his guitar case saying that I wanted that guitar. Just at the
same time, Joshua Daniel, a mighty man of God and an international preacher,
who had been praying for people who were standing in line to be prayed over for,
saw the commotion, stopped dead on his track, approached the little boy, me,
and told my dad in a prophetic moment saying, “When this boy gets to be a man,
he will play the guitar for the Lord.” These words were etched in my memory as
I grew up; but, nothing significant ever happened until a few years.
An aunt of mine who was working in the middle-east was supposed
to present me with a trumpet; my dad was supposed to present me an electronic
keyboard; neither of which had happened until one afternoon, a delivery boy
came home with pamphlets advertising about a guitar
course being held that summer in our neighborhood. “Was the
prophesy getting fulfilled in my life?” I wondered.
Being an 8-year old, the youngest in the class, I was mostly
neglected. At the end of the course, I had acquired nothing but a guitar worth
$6 and just a couple of chords.
My earliest recollection as a young boy, growing up in a
pleasant town, was to become a missionary - to carry the good news of the
gospel, of hope and courage. Little did I know that this would manifest itself
in a way far different than what I had imagined. Barely
into my teens, I got the gift of playing with words and I started writing
poetry at the age of 13. I started writing poems of love, courage, humanity,
hope and peace. O! How I longed to wed my poetry to music. One balmy evening when
I was 16, I cried as I washed my face asking God to give me the gift of writing
songs; hardly a couple of hours from the time I had prayed, I received the
answer to my prayer for I wrote my first song Never go wrong - The prophesy was fulfilled. Now looking back over
the decade, a long haul and the long wait with over 180 songs added to my
repertoire of singing and songwriting, all that I can say is this: God is
faithful!
The big book is foundational and is fundamental; it is the
pivotal point on which rests the fulcrum of my music. I have found it
fulfilling and deeply satisfying to heavily draw inspiration and thematic
references from the ‘wells of the scriptures’ for my lyrics. The
music? Well, it comes from heaven like all gifts do.
To cut a long story short, No Strings Attached is my first album. It is my desire that this
album will help heal, restore, inspire and encourage you as you listen to it.
You can read about the album in an article in my website entitled The Making of ‘No Strings Attached.’
Be blessed! May your joys be multiplied.
I pray the heavenly Father that you will be able to live the life abundant - a
gift that comes absolutely free for
it comes with No Strings attached to
it.
God Bless!
